January Blues -a cheer up blog

We know that lots of people don’t like January and this January seems worse than usual due to everything that’s going on in the world.  OfficeTribe is a place of solutions rather than problems, so we wanted to give you some simple and purse friendly ways of finding cheer for you and those around you.  Everything listed costs £20 or less …

1. Did you know that your favourite co-working space offers a days hotdesking for just £20 per a day?  Give yourself a change of scenery with our Drop-In coworking and feel your energy shift in a very positive way.  There’s an old Hebrew saying, ‘Change your place, change your luck.’  How could it help you?

2. Book yourself in for some real cheering up at Trinity Theatre’s Comedy Night on 11th February.  For £20 you will receive an evening you and your belly won’t forget – laughing and a meal for that price!

3. The Forum is probably the busiest venue in Tunbridge Wells this January!  Lots of events are sold out whilst there are a few tickets for Goldie Looking Chain and Low Key which are just a couple of pounds over £20.  However, 1 Feb is ‘Word Up’, an evening of spoken word and poetry which we know will be fantastic.

4. Send someone a letter; an actual hand-written note.  It is so refreshing to receive post and nice post especially that it will make you smile.  A postcard will do but we promise it will create a smile.

5. Step out of your comfort zone and into open water swimming.  Gaining in popularity, there are numerous locations where you can give this exhilarating pastime a try and quite literally dip your toe in.  It’s £12 with Triswim at Bewl Water, Hever Castle, Haysden Lake and Chipstead Lakes. Booking essential.

6.Volunteer.  Giving back can be so rewarding, even if it’s just an hour here and there.  The many charity shops in Tunbridge Wells are regularly looking for volunteers but there is also a website for volunteer roles:  keep an eye on Tunbridge Wells - Kent Volunteers for opportunities.

7. It has been proven time and time again that connecting with nature is restorative for our body and soul.  If you feel a little like you’re lost in the wilderness, why not gather a group of friends and try forest bathing?  It’s £90 for up to eight people but the real investment is in you – idyllic self-care and mindfulness.

8.The Amelia is a wonderful resource in Tunbridge Wells housing the town’s library.  Go explore, sign-up and take out a book – it’s better for the environment, your purse, and the town as a whole!

9. Buy yourself a bunch of flowers or a new plant to nurture.  Flowers always feel like a gift even if you buy them for yourself.

10. Food and drink!  Did you know that afternoon tea at Hotel du Vin starts at just £13.95 pp?  A little closer to OfficeTribe, The Wine Rooms are offering a complimentary grazing board from 4-6pm Tues to Friday with wine purchased – a great way to catch up with friends.  And Sankey’s is offering ‘Oyster Happy Hour’ between 4-5pm on a Friday – just £1 per shuck – what a decadent way to start the weekend!

We hope that this has inspired you with some ways to banish the January blues and start the new year positively.  Don’t forget to check out our membership options – look forward to seeing you at OfficeTribe!
