The Story behind the brand

OfficeTribe has undergone some changes you might have noticed!  We have a new coworking space on London Road, a new website, incredible new branding by Emma Williams of Studio Aves.  We love our new branding and all that it embodies.  Our former logo was a casual sketch that Julia drew one evening when OfficeTribe was less of a tribe and just the two of us.

When we were about to start our coworking space business, we had to come up with a name.  Tom came up with MySpace* - he thought he was so original - as well as The Office (no, he’s definitely not like David Brent) and Pedestal whereas Julia, with her marketing hat on, came up with OfficeTribe.  It seemed the perfect name for what we were aiming to achieve, and it fitted with our ethos.

We were a start-up and so everything was on a shoestring, including our logo design.  Once we decided on OfficeTribe, Julia was sketching some logo ideas one evening and she struck upon a native American headdress.  We loved the feeling of tribe that was evoked by this simple image and the rainbow-coloured feathers in the headdress demonstrated our approach to diversity.  We wanted OfficeTribe to be welcoming to all:

‘Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family.  Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.’

Jane Howard, ‘Families’ 1978

We hadn’t considered cultural misappropriation with the headdress logo and we certainly didn’t want to exclude or offend anyone.

 We needed a change.

OfficeTribe’s new look

Our new branding is impactful but yet simple and we make the humble asterisk the star of the show.  The asterisk can be used as an indication of a footnote in a piece of writing, as in there’s more to say on this subject and we like that.  Plus, it’s also a playful shape – we like to have fun at OfficeTribe as well as work hard!

The branding may have changed but our ethos and modus operandi remains the same and our affinity with Jane Howard’s quotation above continues.

For people who miss the camaraderie of a workplace, OfficeTribe is your space.

For people who want to chat to likeminded professionals, OfficeTribe is your space.

For people who want to escape the loneliness of working from home and enjoy the quiet company of others, OfficeTribe is your space.

We’re emerging from lockdown in spring which feels like a time of new beginnings for everyone.  If you would like to become part of our tribe, find a new place to spend your days and cowork with others, now is the perfect time.

We are open for business right now – join our OfficeTribe and take advantage of a change of scenery from home and a chance to network.  Contact Hattie on 07780598808 to chat through the options and arrange a tour of our Mount Pleasant and London Road offices.

We look forward to welcoming you to OfficeTribe!
